Pennsylvania Dermatology Partners Plan Further Growth

Pennsylvania Dermatology Partnersis looking forward to an active summer as the burgeoning dermatology network plans to add two more practices, expanding its presence to 16 offices in the Greater Philadelphia region and Lehigh Valley.
The two offices, located in West Chester and Exton, Chester County PA, are scheduled to open under the PDP name in July. The West Chester office was aquired from Drew McCausland, MD, who is retiring after nearly 50 years of providing dermatologic care to the community. PDP's Sarah Todd, MD, will be the practicing dermatologist upon his retirement. The Exton office is leased and will be led by Brandon Rowe, MD.
Both providers are highly skilled, trained, and board-certified Fellows of the American Academy of Dermatology.
The West Chester and Exton expectant openings fall on the heels of PDPs acquisition of Boulevard Dermatology, the Northeast Philadelphia-Lexington Park practice of Deirdre Wood, MD, earlier this year. Dr. Wood is now the lead provider of the Lexington Park office.

Free Skin Cancer Screenings For New Patients in May

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer with one in five Americans developing the cancer in their lifetime. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, the five-year survival rate for Melanoma is nearly 100 percent if caught early. However, it allowed to grow, melanoma can spread quickly with dangerous results.
Fortunately, skin cancer is also one of the most preventable cancers. PDP providers stress that early detection is critical for successful treatment of skin cancers, so they urge anyone who has not had a recent exam to call PDP for a complimentary screening.

PDP to Celebrate King of Prussia Opening on March 17 Chance win $200-off any Botox treatment
Pennsylvania Dermatology Partners (PDP) plans to hold a ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony for its King of Prussia office next month.
The King of Prussia practice, led by Olga Radkevich-Brown, MD, is one of PDP's newest offices. Guests will enjoy light food, refreshments, and a chance to win $200 off any *Botox treatment.

Here are Some Tips and Treatment for Acne

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne affects up to a staggering 50 million Americans annually.
To make matters worse, blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, cysts and other acne-related blemishes seem to occur at the most inconvenient times: before a date, a meeting, class photos, you name it. Although acne is not a serious health threat, severe acne can lead to disfiguring and permanent scarring.
Why do I have acne? Acne is most commonly linked to the changes in hormone levels during puberty, but can start at any age. Certain hormones cause the grease-producing glands next to hair follicles in the skin to produce larger amounts of oil, or abnormal sebum. This abnormal oil changes the activity of harmless skin bacterium called P. acnes, or propionibacterium acnes, which becomes more aggressive and causes inflammation and pus. Certain medications, stress and a poor diet can also contribute to acne. There is also evidence of a genetic component to acne as well.

Do You Need Sunscreen in Winter?

Although you may bundle up and tend not to spend as much time outdoors during the cold Pennsylvania winter months, your hands, face, ears, and neck are still exposed to the sun’s harmful UV rays on a daily basis.
UVA rays are not filtered by glass or clouds and are consistent throughout the year. They also penetrate deeper, causing those pesky brown spots and accelerate the aging process.
The risk of sunburn is actually higher than you realize, during winter because ultraviolet light from the sun is intensified when it reflects off snow, making exposed skin extremely vulnerable to sun damage.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, snow reflects up to 80 percent of the sun’s UV light, so the rays hit you twice, further increasing your risk of sun cancer and premature aging.
Moreover, harmful UV rays are present year-round, and can even filter through dark cloud coverage to reach your skin. As reported by MD Anderson, several studies indicate an effect called cloud enhancement of UV radiation. This phenomenon happens when the sun’s beam reflects off the sides of clouds causing radiation to be more focused and dangerous.
